Festivals are indispensable characteristic of the socio-cultural life of the people of the state. As a matter of fact, festivals epitomize the cultures of the many tribes’. As agriculture is the bastion of the inhabitants, so the festivals celebrated are intimately associated with their occupation. Such festivals are celebrated as thanks giving to the Gods for their providence and offering prayers for surplus harvest. The whole time of the year, festivals are celebrated by some tribe or the other. Some of the important festivals are Solung, Mopin, Losar, Boori Boot, Dree, Chalo-Loku,  Oriyah, Moh-Mol, Nyokum, Reh, Sanken, Si-Donyi and Tamladu.

The common denominators are that the pattern of lifestyle of each is the same and those they follow the same occupation; the societies are casteless; the societies are governed by chiefs and the adults were grouped according to their age for distinct social functions. The young are organised around dormitory institutions to follow the instructions of the older generation.

Arunachal Pradesh being the home for 26 diverse tribes speaking different local dialects and each tribe celebrating its own festivals throughout the year makes this state more colourful and exciting. The most amazing thing is that each tribe has a different culture and tradition. No festival is alike the other’s tribe festivals. Most of the festivals are related to pre-harvest or post- harvest celebration. It is celebrated for bumper harvest and happiness within the community. The myriad of colourful tribes enhances the mystery and beautify the custom and cultures.
